Catheter Related Blood Stream Infections (CRBSIs), along with phlebitis in adults are becoming concern in United State with an increase. The adverse effects of CRBSIs along with phlebitis among the adults have provoked reaction from the healthcare teams in the state, along with health stakeholders which are World Health Organization (WHO), and the Center for Disease Control (CDC). Among the hospitalized patients, Peripheral Intravenous Catheters (PIVCs) are important tools to administer liquid treatment, blood products, parenteral feeding, close monitoring, and infusion of various medicines.

Description

However, extravasations, ecchymosis, hematoma, infection, along with phlebitis are complications from PIVCs. Additionally, one of the contributing factors characterized with the occurrence of complications is indwell time of these PIVCs (Andersen, 2019).

The PICOT Statement

The paper addresses the problem of Catheter Related Blood Stream Infections (CRBSIs), along with phlebitis using prolong and short time Peripheral Intravenous Catheters (PIIVCs) in United State healthcare system. This problem results in long time care patients, aged 40 and above during hospitalization within healthcare facility.

The PICOT Question

For patients undergoing treatment in acute care department, how does extended PIVC dwell times compared with the use of short time Peripheral Intravenous Catheters (PIVCs) affect the risk of Catheter Related Blood Stream Infections (CRBSIs) and phlebitis during hospitalization.

Catheter Related Blood Stream Infections (CRBSIs), phlebitis, and Evidence Based Solutions

Catheter Related Blood Stream Infections (CRBSIs), along with phlebitis are major problem in United State Healthcare systems. However, long time acute care patients, along with hospital managements are part of the research study. Nurses will respond to questions concerning quality of services, and their adherence to the rules and regulations of the organization when it comes to insertion of PIIVCs. Formulation of PICOT comes in when identifying the clinical problem based on the increase in rate of infections among adults within healthcare settings during treatment of one disease or the other.
