In the study of Leppink (2017), Learning Style is the method we acquire or the method we prefer to use when it comes to learning. However, it has nothing to do with intelligence and skills, but how the brain works to learn and store information. Learning styles make one to learn things more efficiently and, in less time, achieve higher grades. It gives a positive attitude about studies, develops self-confidence, and skills in one weaker learning style. Some educators do not believe in different learning styles while others do . This is however based on the fact that individuals are unique, and besides, discovering an individual ’s learning style is the key to academic success. VARK Model includes reading/writing, visual, auditory, and kinesthetic.
According to Leppink (2017), Read/Write is a style that involves a preference for material in a written format, favoring reading over hearing and touching. Examples include writing out summaries, highlighting and underling written material, using flash cards. Visual/Graphic is a style that favors material presented visually in a diagram or picture. Examples include devise diagrams and charts; translate words into symbols or figures. Based on learning style, Auditory/Verbal is a style in which the learner favors listening as the best approach. Examples include reciting material out loud; consider recording lectures, talking through the material (Leppink , 2017).
Bati, Yilmaz, & Yağdi (2017) indicated Kinesthetic as a particular way of gaining knowledge by touching, manipulating objects, and doing things. Examples include incorporation of movement into study, tracing diagrams, and building models, drawing charts, jotting down key concepts. Multimodal learning incorporates many sensory modes into a study routine, and it’s a particularly effective way to learn (Bati et al., 2017). A summary of my learning style according the VARK questionnaire is visual. I am identified with a single visual preference. Few comprehensive points about those who are characterized with a single visual preference like me have a number of methods to use in their preference to study.
